DICHROIC GLASS

I tracked this unique type of dichroic glass down to a factory on an industrial estate in Scotland, after buying a few panes from another fly pitcher in Campden Market. He asked me not to tell anyone how I had come by it, explaining that it military grade glass made for use in space. I discovered this was true, after I introduced myself at the back door of the factory, and began relationship with workers and eventually the management, which lasted till shortly after 9/11, when the factory was relocated to California, and this exotic glass, was once again reserved for military use only.

This dichroic glass measures 99.9% on the refractive index –10% more reflective than mirror -The glass is coated with nano layers of precious metals and rare minerals which reflect alternating complimentary colours, depending in viewing angle, plus a mirror phase. The glass is very hard, and difficult to cut. The colour relationships, multiply with every new pane added. The rippling effects, as the viewing angle changes are impossible to capture photographically, and the high reflectivity is another challenge.
